In Memory of a Special Girl

I'm a little late, but it's still January, so I felt compelled to post this. January 3rd would have been the 26th birthday of a little girl, sadly kidnapped, raped, and murdered near her home in Petaluma, California. That little girl's name was Polly Klass.

The whole event that took place hit home to me since Polly was close to my age, only younger by a couple of years. Also, Petaluma is just a stone's throw from where I live, so it was big news at the time.

I felt so overwhelmed by all of this that I wrote a poem in her memory. I mailed it off to her family along with a letter, but I'm sure they never truly opened it. The overwhelming response her family had was incredible.

Since her birthday was fairly recent I wanted to share that poem with you.

In Memorandum of Polly

This poem is for Polly Hannah Klass,
The 12 year old who was abducted from her home in an act of madness.
Everyone is gathering together in one big mass.
No one is afraid to show the world thier sadness.
Polly, everyone loves you,
Even if they've only seen your face.
Everybody misses you too.
It is time to put Richard allen Davis in his place.
This poem is about love,
Love for the young,
Love that comes from above.
This poem is about trust,
Trust in the elders.
Trusing yourself in being safe is a must.
We will do what we can
To put Mr. Davis away,
Cause Polly, you've got more than one fan
We are here to stay.
Just to let you know,
To us, you'll always be alive.
Come rain, or come snow,
We will strive,
To keep your soul alive.

We love you Polly.
